The National Safety Council, in a 1996 study, determined school buses to be the safest form of transportation available. The study found the risk of death to a passenger traveling in a school bus to be 172 times less than someone traveling in an automobile.

Thomas Built Buses takes great pride in helping achieve the excellent safety record that school buses boast. A full one-third of all students who ride school buses each day ride a Thomas.

Thomas was the first to introduce steel-framed buses and the first to engineer steel structural supports well below the school bus floor to strengthen the skirt area. Even today, our designers and engineers are developing smart new ways to enhance the safety of school bus transportation.
